The Ritinjali Annual Lecture took place on 30 January 2017 at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. We were honoured to have Ven. Geshe Dorji Damdul, Director, Tibet House, New Delhi as the speaker for the evening.

His talk on 'Educating the Global Heart through Wisdom' revolved around the core of the work of His Holiness The Dalai Lama that transcends nationalistic concerns to focus on world building rather than nation building. Ven. Damdul spoke on the importance of an education system that emphasises the development of both the brain and the heart, in order to create a harmonious society functioning on a code of universal ethics. Ven. Damdul also spoke on the twofold challenges to creating such a society - individual crises and identity divisions. He stressed on the fact that accepting oneself and loving oneself for who they are is the key to eliminating the problems of fundamentalism, hatred and selfishness that plague our society.

Speaking on the process of identity formation, he reminded the audience that it is due to the misplaced emphasis on secondary identities that a divided society is created, thus leading to crisis. It is only by checking our conditioning, and by prioritising our primary identities as human beings, can we take steps towards a unified world.
