22nd July: Update on Uttarakhand's Relief Fund

The heavy rains in Delhi and Gurgaon on 20th July, Saturday and the Met prediction of more heavy rain impacted the collection of material. Accordingly, move of the ‘Setting out Party’ is delayed by a day! To give you the latest situation report:

· Mercury Himalayan Exploration has graciously agreed to provide for all our camping needs, including tents for the volunteers, the supplies as well as utensils and stove for cooking.

· The equipment needs to be collected from their Shivpuri facility on the way to Rudraprayag.

· The setting out party would therefore use the Haridwar route tomorrow, while travelling in the SUV, instead of going via Lansdowne.

· Mercury Himalayan Exploration would provide accommodation at Shivpuri and also use the opportunity to train the volunteers on using the camping equipment.

· The relief material truck would continue to use the route through Lansdowne. This is also to avoid the Kanwariya rush. (as you may be aware during the annual monsoon season – Shravan- thousands of saffron-clad pilgrims move on the roads carrying water from the Ganges in Haridwar, Gangotri or Gaumukh, the glacier from where the Ganges originates and other holy places on the Ganges)

· The last minute purchases of required gear and collection of solar torches and lanterns is being done.

· Subject to weather conditions, the first party will leave early morning on Tuesday and have an overnight halt at Shivpuri.

We are finally going to be able to commence execution of our immediate Action Plan. Thank you for all your support till now. We look forward to a continuum of the same.
