Learning Centre - Kusumpur Pahari
Supporting migrant families in urban settlements
Providing education and nutrition for children in need for over 20 years
Ritinjali’s work in Kusumpur Pahari began in 1995. Located in the south-west of Delhi, this urban settlement behind Vasant Vihar is home to a community of migrant families and daily-wage labourers. What started as a small learning space has grown into a centre that supports the educational and emotional needs of children who require additional guidance and care.
Today, the centre serves 120 children between the ages of 4 and 15. Open five days a week, it provides structured remedial support to help children strengthen their academic foundations. The centre was initially established to bridge learning gaps and enable children to enter the formal school system. Today, all children enrolled at the centre attend school. They are grouped by age and learning level, allowing for personalised instruction that meets them where they are.
The support offered at the centre goes beyond academics. Children receive a daily nutrition supplement, and regular medical camps ensure their health needs are met. Ritinjali also engages with parents and caregivers to deepen their understanding of nutrition and everyday practices that contribute to a child’s well-being.
Creative expression plays an important role in the learning environment. Activities such as art, music, theatre, and storytelling help children build confidence and develop social and emotional awareness. Life skills are gently integrated into everyday routines, enabling children to grow in self-assurance and resilience.
The Kusumpur Pahadi Learning Centre continues to serve as a safe, steady space where children are supported in their educational journey and encouraged to step forward with confidence and dignity.
